The Civil Service Club are producing the following food after the parade:

The Cost is £9.50, same as last year.

Please can you send me a cheque payable to The St Vincent Association for £9.50 per person for the food, also please include your drinks choice, 1 drink per person on the Association, and of course any Dietary requirements, and E mail addresses. My contact details are in the magazine.

If you have a hat from last year, and will not be attending the Parade this year, could you return it at the AGM, and if you are attending, and do not have one, please let me have your hat size on your cenotaph return form.

The St Vincent Association are cordially invited to Parade along Whitehall, and on completion attend the post march refreshments at the Civil Service Club.  The reviewing Officer this year will be the Second Sea Lord, Vice Admiral David Steel CBE.

Those attending the Cenotaph parade, I hope you have your caps and tally’s by now. Those of you who can’t remember how to tie a reef bow, consult your seamanship manuals. We will be meeting at the south end of Admiralty Arch at 0930-1000 and I will be handing out the tickets to get you onto Horse Guards. Any queries, please don’t hesitate to get into contact with me. Those who have not collected their caps, these will be available in London on that morning. It may be expedient for you to bring a safety pin to lock in the chinstay as these will be worn!! Currently (as of 15^th. October) I have four places left. We are taking luncheon at the Civil Service club directly after the parade. Our ladies are also very welcome and many are attending. So room for four more!! If you are unable to join us, don’t miss it on TV!!

Stone

Our shipmate Bobbie Potts will be representing the Association at Stone and participating in their parade and laying a wreath on our behalf. Our thanks to Bobbie for volunteering for this important part of our close association with Stone. All local members of the Association are more than welcome to join Bob.

Gosport

Dear old ‘Hookey’ Walker will parade our Standard and Wally Morris will lay the wreath. Again our thankx to these two very senior stalwarts of our Association.

If any local members also wish to support our volunteers at these two Parades please do so and can you let me know that you will be attending. (I have to let each parade commander know how large our ‘squad’ will be.) Thank you.

The new Honorary President Commodore Michael Mansergh CBE RN was introduced to those present and commented on how Associations such as ours remains vitally important to provide inspiration and guidance to the modern Naval personnel.  The President was presented with an Association tie, a lapel pin and a pewter tankard with which he was most grateful.

At the AGM the picture by Frank Salisbury of John Travers Cornwell (which most of you will remember) and Admiral Sir Raymond Lygo were on display for the first time.  They are virtual oil paintings on canvas which are recreated from a photograph. (One would never know the difference.) These will eventually hang in the museum once we have enough volunteers to get it up and running. (So don’t be shy in coming forward to help.)

Everyone enjoyed their lunch of fish & chips and wine and then secured back to the hotel to gather for the evening reunion dinner. This too went off very smoothly and our honoured guests were Commodore Mansergh and his wife. They have written to say thank you to all concerned and that they enjoyed themselves immensely.

Your magazine editor Phil Allen was the after dinner speaker and he gave a brief resume of the career of our new President!! (I hear he is due to be released from DQ’s in December!!)

From my point of view I want to thank everyone who took the time to attend the AGM and dinner – it is your Association and without your input it would not be there for us to enjoy. Well done to you all and thank you all for your kind and positive comments since the event.

The church service in St. Ann’s in the dockyard was also well attended on Sunday, and we were supported by 7 Members of the Ganges Association (we have been working closely together this past year as I have reported in my scribblings). Both of our Standards were paraded and the service was also attended by the First Sea Lord. St. Ann’s is a beautiful and very historic church in the Dockyard and again the weather was kind with the sun streaming in all day.
