DEDICATION OF MEMORIAL TO THE 534 RN BOYS KILLED DURING WWII

You will be aware, if you read the Winter Magazine, that a very special event will be taking place in Portsmouth Cathedral (Anglican) on Sunday 18th March 2012, an event which surely warrants a good turn out of Vincent ‘boys’ and their families/friends. The details have now been published. The dedication will take place during the 1100 Eucharist Service, and our Standard will be amongst those paraded. It is anticipated that both television and press will be in attendance. On completion attendees will be invited to the adjacent Cathedral House for tea/coffee.

In addition, there will be a gang of our mates from Ganges attending and they have kindly invited us to the GI’s Club at Whale Island where the bar will be opened and nibbles available.  A reminder that this memorial was conceived, designed, organised and funded by a Vincent Boy, Jim Reed, and therefore it is  appropriate to give Jim, who is an Honorary Member maximum support. Obviously many of those being commemorated will have trained at HMS St. Vincent and HMS Ganges.

Attendees are requested to muster at the South doors (off the High Street) at 1045. If you intend to take advantage of the GI’s Club invitation then security requires names and registration details before the event. Our Chairman would like to think this an ideal opportunity to mix with our colleagues from Ganges and even maybe recruit ‘boys’ from both to join the choir for the ‘Soderatic Opera’  in July!! Please email these to me at phil.allen@hmsstvincentassoc.org in good time. Hope to see you there,

Darby Allen
